Grant Funding Available to Waimanalo Farmers

Grant funding is available to install conservation practices that protect water quality. Farmers in the Waimānalo watershed can be reimbursed up to 67% of the cost to install conservation practices that reduce soil erosion and protect water quality in Waimānalo Bay. The following are examples of practices eligible for funding:

  • Cover Crops
  • Vegetative Barriers – e.g. vetiver grass
  • Terraces
  • Grassed Waterways
  • Windbreaks
  • Compost Structures
  • Riparian Restoration
  • Rain Gardens

To be considered for second round selections, applications must be submitted by October 1, 2014. Installation of conservation practices must be completed by January 31, 2015.

Grant funds are prioritized for the approximately 800 acres used for small scale agricultural operations within the watershed, including fruit and vegetable farms, orchards, nurseries and livestock operations.
