Pearl City High School wins national EPA award
Waikiki Worm Company compete in the annual Food Recovery Challenge, a nationwide competition sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency which promotes food waste prevention and recycling.
Their former program at Pearl City High School was the national winner in the category of K-12 schools for the 2013-2014 school year! During that year, Pearl City High School recovered 34,635 pounds of food waste on site using worms, hot composting, bokashi and Black Soldier Fly larvae. Their program has now moved over to Lanikai High School where they continue their good work recovering food waste and recycling while engaging students and community alike.
