Tour #3: Agricultural Innovations
(1:30PM-4:30PM)

Tour Highlights:
Hawaiian Earth Products, Paina Hawaii Irradiator and DuPont Pioneer Hawaii

Tour Description:  After a “talk story” drive along the Kunia corridor, we’ll arrive at Hawaiian Earth Products and learn how Oahu’s green waste is transformed into valuable soil nutrients for Hawaii farmers (and backyard gardeners!). Our next stop is the Paina Hawaii Irradiator and Hawaii Papaya Industry packing shed. We’ll see a demonstration of the irradiator and learn why it’s so important to many of Hawaii’s farmers who want to export their produce. Our last stop is to DuPont Pioneer’s research and plant nursery operation where we can see how large farming operations can interface with Hawaii farmers, ranchers and community. We will learn about sunn hemp and cover crops and hear about important community partnerships that are making great use of both large and small farm resources. Bus Host:  Cindy Goldstein.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
