Inoculated Deep Litter System
Oʻahu RC&D has been pleased to be involved in organizing workshops to spread the word about Natural Farming, especially the Inoculated Deep Litter System (IDLS), a new economical waste management system for small family swine farms in Hawaiʻi.
Natural Farming and IDLS use Indigenous Micro-Organisms (IMO) to produce natural inputs to balance a farm’s natural ecosystem, eliminating the need for pesticide and herbicide application and using on-site or locally available materials for natural fertilizer and animal feed. A natural by-product of this method is the elimination of the odors usually associated with piggeries.
